Groningen is a city in the Netherlands that boasts the highest usage of bicycles for transportation in the World. The average citizen of Groningen makes 1.4 trips per bicycle per day and bikes are used for over 50% of all trips in the city and 60% of all trips in the downtown area. Furthermore due traffic engineering it is actually significantly quicker to make trips by bicycle in the downtown city center. The below video is a short documentary by Streetfilms looks at bicycle transportation in the city and examines how it came around and what is necessary to replicate it elsewhere. The really interesting part is the shots of people biking. They are not your lycra clad cyclists or even wearing hi-vis clothing but your every day person wearing everyday clothes as they use their bicycles to get around more effectively than they could by car.
